The state of Tennessee Division of Radiological Health requires that all x-ray machines or replacement x-ray tubes be registered with the state within 10 days of possession. If the tube is not registered within this time period, the university can be fined for the violation. It is very important that Radiation Safety be informed of all x-ray machine purchases before the device(s) arrive on campus. Some machines that produce x-rays require operational procedure approval from the Division of Radiological Health before they can be used.
Individuals using x-ray units on campus must complete the x-ray training requirements before they use the machine. Contact our office for training information.
To become authorized to possess a device that creates x-rays, complete the X-ray Machine Authorization Application.
